=aJane Pope Ridgway was a young girl at home when her father, architect John Russell Pope, designed the West Building of the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. She was a close observer of his work. She recalled travels with her mother and father and incidents relating to her father's interest and appreciation for architecture. She described his intense concern for details of the Gallery's design and remembered his careful study of marble and its appearance when wet. She described the Gallery's dedication which she attended with her mother.
